Trump to Nicki Minaj at Michigan Rally: “Stand Up!” — and the Barbz Are Losing It

Written by on 26 October 2026

Nicki Minaj is back on the campaign trail, and her latest stop with President Donald Trump in Michigan is the moment everyone is talking about.

Minaj joined Trump in Michigan on Sunday for a midterm rally, stepping off Air Force One at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in head-to-toe Gucci. The appearance puts her back alongside the president ahead of the November midterms, just days after the pair publicly doubled down on their mutual admiration.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung even got in on the fun, posting a video from the trip and joking that Minaj could fill the vacant briefing-room job. “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ,” Cheung wrote on X, after Katie Zacharia left the press secretary role after about five days. Nicki quote-tweeted the post with an American flag and a laughing emoji — a joke, not an official appointment.

Then came the rally moment itself. During his speech in Port Huron, Trump made Nicki the moment, singling her out in front of the crowd. “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a** before. Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss. Stand up!” he said, according to both TMZ and HotNewHipHop’s coverage of the rally. TMZ reports Trump added “I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted” and that “we love Nicki” and “she’s been with us for a long time.” Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz also joined Cheung in pitching Minaj for the press secretary job, asking the Barbz what they thought of the idea.

This isn’t exactly new territory for the two of them. The Michigan stop fits the same midterm push Minaj has been on for months — she has urged fans to “vote red,” called herself Trump’s “number one fan,” and told Fox News she supports him because she “just love[s] him.” Trump talking about a woman’s body from a presidential podium isn’t new for him either; he’s done versions of it for years on the campaign trail and in old interviews. Hearing the president say it out loud, then ask her to stand up, lands somewhere between a compliment, a bit, and a reminder of how he still talks when the cameras are rolling.

Love her politics or not, nobody can say Nicki doesn’t command a room — or a news cycle.
