Yella Beezy Trial Takes a Wild Turn as Childhood Friend Pleads the Fifth on Every Question

Day three of Yella Beezy’s murder-for-hire trial delivered the kind of courtroom drama no one saw coming — when the prosecution’s own witness refused to say almost anything at all.

In a Dallas courtroom on Thursday (October 29), Theodore Thomas — known to rap fans as Jose Bodega, a childhood friend of Beezy — took the witness stand and repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Question after question, his answer was the same: “I’m going to plead the Fifth to that.”

Prosecutors had expected Thomas to be a key witness. They said he testified before the grand jury that indicted Beezy, born Markies Conway, for allegedly hiring Kewon White to carry out the killing of Dallas rapper Mo3 over a long-running rap feud. White was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in September.

But on the stand, Thomas would not answer questions about Beezy’s rap crew, the Get Rich Cartel, the feud between Beezy and Trapboy Freddy, or his California travels with Beezy in November 2020, around the time Mo3 was killed. Prosecutors confronted him with a 140-page grand jury transcript where he had allegedly answered those very questions before — and still, he pleaded the Fifth. Even when the defense asked whether he would recant any of his past statements, he pleaded the Fifth again.

Judge Chika Anyiam eventually stepped in, excused Thomas from the stand, and warned he could be recalled later, instructing him to return to court on Friday (October 30) with his attorney.

Thomas, who performs as Jose Bodega, released his debut album Mr. Bodega in 2020 and a follow-up, Defamation of Character, in 2022, and has collaborated with both Beezy and Trapboy Freddy. His refusal to testify raises serious questions about the prosecution’s case — and about his own federal cooperation arrangement, which reportedly hinged on his testimony.

Beezy is on trial for allegedly orchestrating the murder of Mo3, born Melvin Noble, in an ambush on Interstate 35 in Dallas in November 2020. He has pleaded not guilty, and the trial is expected to last about two weeks.

Kiss 101.7 will keep following this trial as it unfolds — and we will be watching closely to see what happens when Thomas returns to the stand.
