U.S. Marshals Arrest Fugitive Wanted in Virgin Islands Shooting at Delaware Park

A man wanted for a shooting in the U.S. Virgin Islands thought he could disappear into a job at a Delaware racetrack — but U.S. Marshals caught up with him.
Dumaray Iles, 34, of St. Croix, was wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department on charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and mayhem tied to a November 27, 2025 shooting in the Golden Rock area of Christiansted. When investigators couldn’t find him, Virgin Islands police asked the U.S. Marshals Service’s Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force for help on August 4.
Working with Homeland Security Investigations, marshals traced Iles to Philadelphia, where he had arrived in May, and then — on September 30 — learned he was working as a horse handler at Delaware Park Racetrack. The Marshals Service in the Virgin Islands called its Delaware counterparts, and members of the Delaware First State Fugitive Task Force took Iles into custody at the track without incident.
Iles was held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington pending extradition, and court records show he has since been extradited.
“Those wanted for violent crimes should understand that crossing state lines or traveling thousands of miles will not stop the U.S. Marshals Service from pursuing them,” said Kwesi R. Howard, U.S. Marshal for the District of the Virgin Islands.
All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
