Yung Miami Won’t Say She Misses JT — But She’d Relive the City Girls Days in a Heartbeat

Yung Miami

Yung Miami is standing firmly in her solo era — but she is not pretending the City Girls days never happened. In a pair of new interviews tied to her debut solo album Watch Dis!, the Miami rapper opened up about her past with JT, and her answers were as honest as they were complicated.

Speaking with XXL for its Keep It a Buck series, Miami was asked whether she would rather relive her group career or jump five years into the future. She did not hesitate. “I’m not going to lie, I relive my group career,” she said. “Like that was a very important time in my life. I really enjoyed being in the group at one point and, you know, that’s how I started. So, I don’t never take that for granted or I would never just act like that never happened. That kind of like prepared me to be a solo artist and I appreciate every aspect of life.”

It is a striking answer from an artist whose solo breakout has been one of the year’s biggest stories. Watch Dis!, her 21-track debut solo album, arrived October 23, anchored by “Spend Dat,” the summer anthem that peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on Hot Rap Songs. Miami told XXL that what keeps her grinding is simple: “Women are just hardworking, period. We are very strong in every aspect of life… I have two kids to feed. So, what motivates me to keep working is just to be able to do whatever the f**k I wanna do in life.”

But when the conversation turned to JT herself, Miami’s candor gave way to something more guarded. On The Jason Lee Show, which premiered Wednesday on BET’s YouTube channel, Lee asked whether she still missed her former groupmate and childhood friend. Rather than answering yes or no, Miami said she accepts where things stand and is moving on with her life. She maintained that she doesn’t harbor hatred toward JT and would be willing to forgive her and have a conversation.

Her response matched an earlier explanation of why she recorded “Dear JT” for Watch Dis!. “I just put on the song how I feel, and I’m moving forward,” she said, explaining that the record wasn’t meant to provoke a response from her former groupmate, but to express feelings she had carried through their separation. Miami previously told Hot 97 that she cried while recording the track and hadn’t played it for JT before its release.

The conversation also addressed whether JT supported Miami during the controversy surrounding her former relationship with Diddy. Asked if her former groupmate had been there for her, Miami answered no. Still, she wasn’t interested in dismissing their years together. “I look at her like family,” she explained, describing JT as someone she considers a sister or cousin — and acknowledging that relatives can have serious disagreements without erasing their connection. JT has not publicly responded to “Dear JT,” and Miami’s latest comments offered no indication that they’ve resumed communicating.

One thing is clear: the music is doing the talking. Press play on “Spend Dat” below — the record that turned Miami’s solo run into a full-blown moment.
