Stephanie Mills Holds NOTHING Back On The Jason Lee Show
Written by Kiss Media on 16 October 2026
An R&B legend just gave one of the realest interviews of the year. Stephanie Mills — the voice behind “Home” from The Wiz and a stack of soul classics — sat down with Jason Lee for The Jason Lee Show on BET, which aired October 14, and she held absolutely nothing back.
She reflected on her close friendship with Michael Jackson and why she’ll always protect his name. She addressed the long-rumored Diana Ross feud — insisting there was never any beef and saying she’s tired of Black women being pitted against each other. She challenged Chaka Khan to another VERZUZ. She called out the industry’s lack of respect for “real singers.” And she didn’t stop there: she weighed in on Lady Gaga — calling her a “culture vulture” who owes her an apology over a disrespectful encounter — praised Chris Brown as the closest thing to MJ who deserves redemption, and touched on Oprah, Gayle King, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Prince, Tupac, and Whitney Houston.
The personal moments hit just as hard. Stephanie opened up about raising her son Farad, who has Down Syndrome, with the grace only a mother can bring. And yes, she played the viral segments too — “Name Drop” and “Smash or Pass” with Eric Benét, Lenny Kravitz, Michael B. Jordan, and Bad Bunny on the board.
This is a masterclass in what a veteran interview looks like: no dodging, no PR answers, just truth with a smile. Whether you grew up on Stephanie Mills or you’re discovering her through the clips, this episode is required viewing:
