The Hip Hop Nutcracker Brings Kurtis Blow to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre

A holiday tradition with real hip-hop flavor is back in Brooklyn. The Hip Hop Nutcracker — the contemporary dance spectacle that remixes hip-hop dance with Tchaikovsky’s timeless music — comes to Kings Theatre on Wednesday, December 23, 2026 at 7:00 PM, with special guest MC Kurtis Blow opening the night with a short set.

Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award–nominated Jennifer Weber, the show brings a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, and a violinist together with digital graffiti visuals to retell the story of Maria-Clara through the streets of modern-day New York City. It’s all ages, two days before Christmas, and built for the whole family.

And Kurtis Blow is no mere garnish: one of hip-hop’s founding fathers, he’s the first rapper ever signed to a major label, the voice behind rap’s first gold record “The Breaks,” and the MC who cut the first hip-hop Christmas record — 1979’s “Christmas Rappin’.” Expect the crowd to go up for both.
