A 19-year-old Ellendale man has died after a two-vehicle crash in Lincoln on Wednesday night, Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, at the intersection of DuPont Boulevard and Johnson Road. Troopers say a Ford F-150 heading north on DuPont Boulevard approached the intersection at the same time a Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling west on Johnson Road toward DuPont Boulevard.
According to the preliminary investigation, the pickup’s driver failed to stop at a red traffic signal, and the front of the truck struck the driver’s side of the Cavalier.
The Cavalier’s driver, a 19-year-old from Ellendale, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he died Thursday, October 29. The pickup’s driver, a 22-year-old Georgetown man, was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Emergency crews responding to the scene reported heavy entrapment involving a critically injured patient. Both drivers were taken by ground ambulance to Bayhealth Sussex Campus. A Delaware State Police Aviation helicopter was requested but ultimately not used.
DuPont Boulevard was closed for an extended period while investigators examined the scene and crews cleared the roadway.
No charges have been announced, and neither driver has been named.
