“That Was a Lie”: Yella Beezy’s Childhood Friend Stuns Courtroom, Says Grand Jury Story Was Made Up

Written by on 3 November 2026

The murder-for-hire trial of Dallas rapper Yella Beezy took a dramatic turn on Monday, November 2, when a key witness took the stand and told the court that the story he once told a grand jury simply was not true.

The witness is Theodore Thomas, known in music circles as rapper Jose Bodega and described as Beezy’s childhood friend and associate. Just days earlier, Thomas had repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right and refused to answer questions. On Monday, during day four of the trial, he returned as a hostile witness under an immunity agreement and finally addressed the statements he made to a Dallas County grand jury back in February 2025 — statements that helped lead to Beezy’s indictment.

Prosecutors walked him through that old testimony line by line, including claims about Beezy’s alleged role in the 2020 killing of fellow Dallas rapper Mo3. Thomas pushed back in plain terms, telling the court, “I told you I lied already, so asking me questions from a paper, it’s like you making me re-lie.” When pressed on his earlier claim that the gunman, Kewon White, was paid $40,000 to carry out the hit by Beezy and Trapboy Freddie, Thomas answered flatly: “That was a lie.”

So why did he say it in the first place? On redirect, defense attorneys asked whether he had been threatened with federal charges — including RICO and VICAR counts carrying a possible life sentence — and whether he fabricated details to get into a federal diversion program. Thomas confirmed both points. He also testified that he never saw White get paid and never knew Mo3 was going to be killed on November 11, 2020, describing White instead as aggressive and unpredictable, driven by a need for street credibility rather than by the rules of Beezy’s Get Rich Cartel crew.

Prosecutors, for their part, suggested a different motive for the about-face: lifelong loyalty to a friend. They showed the jury photos of Thomas and Beezy together over the years — in high school, at baby showers, on private jet trips to Miami — and argued the recantation was about protecting Beezy, not telling the truth.

The judge stepped in with a careful instruction, reminding jurors that Thomas’s old grand jury statements can only be used to judge his credibility now, not as direct proof of Beezy’s guilt. White, meanwhile, was already convicted of Mo3’s murder and sentenced to life in prison in September.

Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, has pleaded not guilty. His trial resumes Tuesday, November 3, in Dallas — and after Monday’s testimony, all eyes will be on what the prosecution does next.
