Ten residents — plus five pets — are without a home after an early-morning fire in Wilmington on Sunday.
Wilmington firefighters were dispatched around 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 18, to a two-story row home in the 500 block of South Van Buren Street. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the basement and had the flames contained within 15 minutes, limiting damage to the home where the fire started. Everyone inside made it out before firefighters arrived.
Three adults, two children, one dog and four cats were displaced by the blaze. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
Responding units included Engines 1, 6 and 5; Squad 4; Ladders 2 and 1; Battalion Chiefs 2 and 1; Ambulances 1 and 6; and New Castle County Paramedics. No injuries were reported.
