A Camden man will spend the next 30 years in prison for the 2024 killing of his girlfriend.
Gregory Bratcher, 66, was sentenced on October 7 to 30 years of Level V incarceration after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 72-year-old Marjeanne Lande, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.
On the afternoon of June 30, 2024, Delaware State Police responded to a family-requested welfare check at the 200 block of Apple Blossom Drive in Magnolia. Lande was found deceased on her living room floor with bruising to her head, chest, and arms. The Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences later ruled her death a homicide.
Detectives identified Bratcher, Lande’s live-in boyfriend, as the suspect. Prosecutors said he told investigators he struck and grabbed Lande, left her on the floor, and fled the home.
A Kent County grand jury indicted Bratcher on November 4, 2024, and he was taken into custody four days later. He had initially been charged with first-degree murder and strangulation, both felonies, and was held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $1 million cash bond.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings said she was grateful to the DOJ team and the Delaware State Police for their work on the case, and hoped the outcome would bring the victim’s family some measure of peace.
