HISTORY: Nobody does heartbreak harmonies like Philadelphia’s own Boyz II Men. Formed in the mid-80s at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as Unique Attraction, they broke through with “End Of The Road,” the record-shattering ballad that turned new-jack-swing singers into Philly-soul ballad legends. On the other side of the decade, TLC’s “No Scrubs” — the 1999 lead single from FanMail — became the defining R&B anthem of the late 90s, three voices from Atlanta with an attitude the whole country adopted. Independent BYOB day and night parties have become a favorite model for urban event promoters up and down the Delaware-Maryland corridor — no bar lines, your own bottle, and a DJ who knows exactly when to drop the classics. Young Life Entertainment and DJ Wayne Stackz are keeping that tradition loud in Newark.
