HISTORY: The “yard” is sacred ground in Black college culture — the campus lawn where homecoming truly happens, where fraternities and sororities stroll, where the bands play and everybody is somebody. Yard Fest bottles that energy into a fall party season finale, and Wilmington is the right city for it: Delaware State University in Dover anchors the state’s HBCU tradition, and the Divine Nine presence across the region turns any yard-themed night into a reunion. The Queen, the historic downtown theater reborn as Wilmington’s premier live venue, hosts the night in its event space — proof that homecoming season in Delaware stretches well past October.
