Jay-Z Brings Out Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at SoFi — Then Calls Out the “AI” Doubters

Night two of Jay-Z’s SoFi Stadium takeover belonged to the West Coast. On Saturday night in Inglewood, California, Hov paused his own victory lap through three decades of classics to bring out two of the most important figures in rap history — Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre — and the building erupted.

The weekend marks a double anniversary for Jay-Z: 30 years of Reasonable Doubt and 25 years of The Blueprint. Friday night already set the bar high, with John Legend, Blue Ivy and DJ Khaled among the guests. Saturday, though, belonged to California. After opening with Too $hort, Jay-Z handed the stage to Snoop and Dre midway through the show, and the pair ran through a set that felt like a greatest-hits package all on its own: “Murder Was the Case,” “The Next Episode,” “California Love,” “Nothin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” and, fittingly, “Still D.R.E.” — a song Jay-Z himself famously wrote.

The full 39-song setlist stretched from “The Watcher 2” and “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” through “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem),” “99 Problems,” “Empire State of Mind” and “N—as in Paris” before closing with “Encore.” It was, by any measure, a marathon — and a reminder of just how deep Hov’s catalog runs when he decides to empty it out.

But Jay-Z also used the night to answer his critics directly. After a week in which falling resale prices fueled online claims that the SoFi shows were empty or flopping, he stopped the show to address the noise head-on. “Y’all gotta be very aware what’s going on in the world, right? People will tell you that nobody was in here tonight, but you got eyes, you can see,” he told the crowd. “People will tell you that the music wasn’t great, but you got ears. […] Question everything in this world of AI.”

The message landed because the room told its own story. Anyone watching the fan videos could see a packed arena singing every word back — the same arena that, just days earlier, some corners of the internet had tried to write off. Jay-Z has spent years brushing off narratives about his relevance, his popularity and his place in the Super Bowl conversation. Saturday night, he didn’t argue with a statement. He let a sold-out stadium, two West Coast legends and a 39-song setlist do the talking.
