Trump Says Nicki Minaj as White House Press Secretary Is a “Good Idea” — and He’ll Think About It

The internet did a double take this weekend, and honestly, so did we — because the idea of Nicki Minaj running White House press briefings just got a nod from the president himself.

During a clip from his interview on “The Benny Show,” host Benny Johnson floated the idea of the Queen of Rap taking over as White House press secretary. President Donald Trump’s response was not a no. “That’s a good idea. I think I’ll have to think about that,” he said, before adding that Johnson himself would be a good option too.

The suggestion did not come out of nowhere. Earlier reports said several White House staffers had already pitched Minaj for the role after she traveled with them on Air Force One to a midterm rally. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung even posted on X last weekend, teasing that they may have found the new press secretary, and Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz asked Minaj’s fanbase, the Barbz, what they thought of the idea.

This is also the latest chapter in a very public mutual admiration stretch. Minaj has been campaigning alongside Trump and the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, and Trump has praised her in public more than once — including a compliment at a Port Huron, Michigan, rally that had the crowd buzzing. According to HotNewHipHop, the administration currently has no permanent White House press secretary following recent departures, and a permanent pick may wait until after the midterms.

Let’s be clear about what this is — and what it isn’t. This is not a job offer, and it is not an appointment. It is a floated idea that Trump said he would think about, and as HotNewHipHop notes, the last person left to weigh in is Minaj herself. She has not publicly commented on the press secretary idea.

Still, the image alone is enough to break the timeline: the Barbz briefing room, the pink podium, the questions from reporters answered in full Nicki fashion. Stranger things have happened in this news cycle, and this one has the whole culture talking.
