Jersey Shore’s 9 hottest dance clubs Before COVID

Written by on 19 October 2020

“Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the streets,” famously sang Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

That’s true at the Jersey Shore — especially in the summertime in nightclubs. In fact, summer at the Shore revolves around dancing at the clubs. A night wouldn’t be complete without it. So if you’re new to the area, or maybe a little rusty because you’ve been on the beach too long, here’s a look at the Shore’s Top 9 dance clubs:

People enjoy a summer night at D'Jais in Belmar. Saturday, June 15.

D’Jais Bar and Grill

It’s the perfect combination of a high-energy club and a neighborhood hangout. D’Jais has been in business since 1959 and they’ve stayed contemporary. Generations are still packing the dance floor throughout the week. The side bar, by the way, has the best view of any club at the Shore — the Atlantic Ocean. The club is only open in the summer. 1801 Ocean Ave., Belmar. djais.com

The Headliner

The Headliner, like D’Jais, is high energy but not too edgy. The spot hosted the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” last summer. This summer? Who knows. Stop on by, it’s a Jersey Shore tradition. 401 Route 35, Neptune. www.theheadliner.com

Jax Garage in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Saturday, May 4.

Jax Garage

Dance clubs at the Shore these days tend to go for the glitz and polish. Not Jax Garage in Seaside Heights. It’s literally in a garage, and that’s why we like it. It’s become a big hit, too, especially on Thirsty Thursdays. There’s a second floor balcony overlooking the Boulevard and Local Smoke BBQ for eats.

Jax Garage comes from the former owners of Jack N Bills, which was destroyed in the boardwalk fire of 2013. 116 Sumner Ave., Seaside Heights. www.jaxgaragenj.com

Jenks Club

Jenks kind of has it all — DJs, cover bands, palm trees, boardwalk food and it’s right on the ocean. A trip here is a trip to the Jersey Shore. The club is located inside Jenkinson’s Pavilion. 300 Ocean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. www.jenkspavilion.com

The Osprey Nightclub in Manasquan.

The Osprey Nightclub

The big Osprey equals big fun and has so for more than 70 years. There’s a band room and a DJ room, the “Boom Boom Room,” and it seems like everyone in their 20s who lives in Manasquan, Spring Lake, Brielle and the surrounding area comes here.

You need to experience this Shore legend at least once, but you have to act quick. It’s only open in the summer, and only on Friday and Saturday nights. 201 First Ave., Manasquan. 732-528-1800 or www.ospreynightclub.com

Paradise

It’s everything from Drag Wars to country line dancing to hot Friday and Saturday DJ nights at the Shore’s biggest gay club. Did we mention there’s a pool and an adjacent hotel, too?

Paradise was opened by former Madonna producer Shep Pettibone in 1999, and was a pivotal moment in the resurgence of Asbury Park. 101 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park. paradisenj.com

The Pool After Dark

Need star power for your night out? There’s a lot of celebs making a splash this summer at Harrah’s The Pool After Dark this summer.

Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy on July 5; Ja Rule on July 12; Brody Jenner and Devin Lucien on July 13 and Aug. 24; Teresa Giudice on July 19; and Fetty Wap on Aug. 3 are some of the stars who are performing, spinning or just hanging.

DJ Pauly D has a monthly residency, so he’s there spinning July 6, Aug. 17 and Sept, 28. Also, don’t worry about the weather at the Pool after Dark. It’s indoors. Harrah’s, 777 Harrah’s Blvd., Atlantic City. thepoolafterdark.com

Jersey Shore bars: Look at who was partying at Porta in Asbury Park on August 25, 2018.

Porta

Sure, there’s the Stone Pony and the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, but the place where there’s always a line to get in on Friday and Saturday nights is Porta.

It’s a high-end pizzeria by day, and a fist-pumping nightclub at night. There are also locations on Grove Street in Jersey City and Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. 911 Kingsley Ave., Asbury Park. pizzaporta.com

Teak Rooftop

It’s not the biggest club, but it has one of the best views around and it’s the place at the Jersey Shore where the celebs hang.

Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band, David Bryan of Bon Jovi and the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” have all stopped in. DJs spin Friday and Saturday nights, and there’s live music on other nights of the week.  64 Monmouth St., Red Bank. teakrestaurant.com.
