Today In 1996: Tupac VS. The Fugees
Written by Kola Kol on 13 February 2024
Let’s take a walk down memory lane.
On this day, February 13, 1996 Tupac Shakur released his fourth album and the first double album, “ALL EYEZ ON ME” through Death Row and Interscope records. Also in Hip Hop at the time, the Fugees dropped their second and final studio project, “THE SCORE” on Colombia Records.
When both projects were released 28 years ago, no one knew how big both projects would be for Hip Hop, but after great international success from both projects it was clear that 1996 was a crucial year in Hip Hop.
Both projects marked an era in Hip Hop when the genre was growing and reaching a larger audience globally, the music was being included in mainstream television (like Martin, New York Under Cover and more). The genre was also being accepted and appreciated in other countries.
Both, THE SCORE and ALL EYEZ ON ME will go down in history as being 2 of the biggest albums in Hip Hop history, what are the chances that they were released on the same day?
