Kid Rock Admits He Used AI for the Choir on His Eminem Collab — and He’s Not Apologizing

Kid Rock just added a new twist to one of the most talked-about collaborations of the year — and this time, it’s not about politics. It’s about artificial intelligence.
The rock-rap veteran stopped by Real Time with Bill Maher to talk about his new album, Halfway 2 Jesus, and the conversation turned to “Heal My Faith,” his collaboration with longtime friend Eminem. That’s when Kid Rock casually revealed that the song’s choir isn’t human at all.
As he explained it, he sang the hook and the harmonies himself, but with his singers unavailable and patience in short supply, he turned to AI to fill out the sound. He prompted the tool for harmony and lead notes, asking for a Southern gospel choir feel, ran it several times, and pieced the results together into the choir you hear on the track. In his words, it’s simply another tool in the bag.
He also addressed the obvious question head-on: did he put singers out of work? His answer was to point to music history — the electric guitar, the drum machine — arguing that every new tool sparks the same fear, while still admitting that AI is different and that he fully believes it needs to be regulated at the highest levels.
The revelation adds another layer to a song that was already controversial. When “Heal My Faith” first dropped, plenty of Eminem fans were unhappy about Slim Shady teaming up with Rock, an outspoken MAGA supporter, after years of Eminem criticizing Donald Trump. The two have been friends since long before Trump entered politics, but that didn’t stop the backlash.
Now the AI admission has fired up a second debate — this one about authenticity in music. Is using AI to build a choir just smart production, or does it cross a line? Kid Rock clearly falls in the first camp, treating it as a time-saving studio shortcut rather than a replacement for real artistry. Critics, meanwhile, see it as another step toward machines doing the work humans used to do.
One thing is for sure: as AI keeps creeping further into the studio, this conversation isn’t going away. And with artists as big as Eminem and Kid Rock now in the middle of it, the debate just got a lot louder.
