University of Delaware Cancels Monday Classes After Halloween Night Shooting in Newark

The University of Delaware has cancelled classes for Monday following the Halloween night shooting on Main Street in Newark that sent six people to hospitals.
The university said the decision was not based on a current safety concern, and Newark police continue to say there is no ongoing threat to the community. Administrators said they wanted to give students, faculty, and staff time to rest, process what happened, and connect with support.
The university’s Newark campus, including dining services, remained open on Monday. The university was already scheduled to be closed Tuesday for Election Day, so classes are set to resume Wednesday.
Counseling walk-in support is available Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Warner Hall, and TimelyCare is available around the clock. Faculty and staff can reach the Employee Assistance Program.
The shooting happened Saturday night on East Main Street near the University of Delaware, where six people were shot during a large Halloween gathering. Newark police detectives continue to investigate, and no shooter or motive has been identified.
