Seventh Victim Located in Newark Halloween Night Shooting

Written by on 3 November 2026

Newark police say a seventh person was wounded in the Halloween night shooting on East Main Street, after investigators located a 17-year-old boy who had left the scene without reporting his injury.

Police say the teen suffered a graze wound to his lower body during the gunfire on Saturday, October 31, near Choate Street. He was found by investigators on Monday, November 2, and told officers he had been hurt. He was treated at Christiana Hospital and released, bringing the total number of victims to seven.

The shooting broke out just before 11:15 p.m. Saturday as large Halloween crowds gathered downtown. Six other victims were found shot that night, ranging in age from 15 to 21. A 15-year-old shot in the back remains in critical condition, and a University of Delaware student remains in serious condition with a collapsed lung. A 21-year-old woman who suffered a graze wound to her leg was treated and released.

One of the people shot, a 16-year-old from Wilmington, has since been charged with weapons offenses, including possession of a firearm by a person under 21, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and breach of release. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3, where bail was set at $60,100 cash. Police have not said he was responsible for the gunfire, and no one has been charged in the shooting itself. The investigation continues, and no shooter has been identified.
