Wilmington honors its ancestors in a big way this month. The Delaware Art Museum hosts the 7th Annual Día de los Muertos: Walking Among the Ancestors on Thursday, October 29, 2026 — a vibrant, all-ages celebration of a beloved tradition.
The gathering runs from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eastern at the Delaware Art Museum, 2301 Kentmere Parkway in Wilmington, Delaware. Admission is free with a spot reservation — no ticket price is listed.
The evening features a sacred ceremony led by Tonanatzin Yaotecat, hosted by Israel Herrera, followed by live performances from Los Niños Cantores de Delaware, Ballet Folklórico México Lindo HAAD, and Seylin Abarca. Guests are invited to bring photos and food offerings for the ofrendas, browse artisan vendors sharing rich cultural traditions, and savor authentic Mexican cuisine from Los Taquitos de Puebla, La Trailita de LuLu Mexican Food, Paletería y Nevería Tocumbo, and Kaffeina Café.
HISTORY
Día de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead — is a Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have passed, celebrated with joyful gatherings, colorful ofrendas, music, and food rather than mourning. The Delaware Art Museum’s annual celebration, now in its seventh year, has grown into one of Wilmington’s signature fall cultural events, drawing the local Latino community together with ceremony, dance, music, and art.
