An 18-year-old is back in Delaware to face murder charges in the New Year’s Eve shooting death of a Wilmington man.
Wilmington police say Marcus Foster, 40, was found with gunshot wounds in the 600 block of West 6th Street at about 7:52 p.m. on December 31, 2025. He later died at a hospital.
Shortly after the shooting, Chester, Pennsylvania police told Wilmington investigators that a possible suspect vehicle had crashed in Chester. Officers there detained an 18-year-old from the vehicle who was allegedly carrying a .45-caliber handgun. Wilmington Detective Joseph Wicks identified the teen as the shooting suspect and obtained arrest warrants on January 2. A New Castle County grand jury returned an indictment on February 3, and the suspect was extradited to Delaware on October 23.
He now faces first-degree murder, first-degree murder during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree robbery, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of an accident. After arraignment in New Castle County Superior Court, he was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,311,000 cash-only bail.
The suspect has not been publicly named. A state law that took effect October 21, House Bill 59, generally bars police from publicly releasing the names of arrested adults unless the person is charged with or suspected of a felony and release is necessary to protect public safety.
