KMontá career spans over ten years off and on in radio with some of those years in the entertainment business via music and television. The best way to describe her …SHE LOVES TO TALK & MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH…and that’s what she does for a living. KMontá was an on-air personality for WCDX POWER 92.1 JAMZ in Richmond, VA. She had the overnights on lock from midnight to 6am and was affectionately named “THE LATE NIGHT RIDE OR DIE CHIC.” She was also the stations show prep correspondent, dishing the dirt on your favorite celebs with “KMontá What You Say?” A native of Richmond, VA, KMontá started her radio career in August 1990 at Virginia State University, WVST 91.3 FM as Keshia B. With music as her passion, she left VSU to pursue her dream of becoming a singer in 1993. Touring off and on for almost five years, she found herself back home discouraged, but not ready to call it quits. Faced with many trials and tribulations, she worked odd jobs by day, recording at night. But it took the tragedy of her mother falling very ill that made her have to make the ultimate sacrifice of putting her dreams and aspirations to the side to take care of her mother. Three years later, during that time KMontá was informed about an opportunity at POWER 92.1 JAMZ. In 2002, Former Program Director, Terry Foxx, and former Music Director/Program Director, Reggie B., gave her a shot as an overnight board operator. Within two months of her new position, her mother died. Heartbroken, but inspired she worked harder on her craft and within six months became a force to be reckoned with….the newest addition to the airwaves, KMontá Big, Beautiful, & Definitely Lovin’ It was born. In 2005 OM/PD Al Payne gave her the opportunity to expand her voice as “Keshia James” on urban AC stations WKJS/WKJM 99.3/105.7. KMontá also hosted the first all female hip hop mix show in VA, “LADIES NITE” with DeeJay Peachez. She also added more skills to her repertoire: voicing commercials for all three stations in the Radio One Richmond cluster, radio production, hosting events, club nights and remotes. KMontá has also hosted Straight from the Streets Video Magazine, Karamel Video Jamz, and made her national TV debut on B.E.T’s College Hill. Unfortunately due to budget cuts, KMontá was laid off from Radio One in 2008. KMontá had an internet radio show that she produced and hosted with a local station, “The Big Love Show,” on WRFE radio. Understanding that change was needed to continue her journey in radio, KMontá relocated to Wilmington, DE to be closer to family. After months of exploring and searching for a new radio home, she found one with WJKS KISS 101.7.
