A 17-year-old from Claymont is facing felony charges after New Castle County police say he pointed a stolen handgun fitted with a green laser at several people during an argument at an apartment complex.
Officers were called to the 900 block of Cedartree Lane in the Woodacre Apartments community at about 7:55 a.m. on Friday, October 23, on a report of a person with a gun. Police say several people were involved in a verbal altercation in the complex’s courtyard when the teenager allegedly pulled out a handgun equipped with a green laser and pointed it at multiple people. Officers had also learned that a green laser dot had reportedly been seen inside the complex before the confrontation, possibly coming from one of the apartments.
Police identified the teenager’s apartment and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun with a laser attachment. Investigators determined the gun had been reported stolen in July 2026 and linked the teenager to that original theft.
The teen, who is not being named because of his age, was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with three felony counts of aggravated menacing, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a person under 21, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post $45,500 secured bail. No injuries were reported.
