It’s Official: NFL Announces JAY-Z as the Super Bowl Halftime Show Headliner

It’s no longer a rumor. It’s no longer a report. The NFL made it official on Monday night: JAY-Z will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The announcement landed in the middle of Monday Night Football — prime time, with the whole sports world watching — and the league paired it with a teaser trailer showing Hov sitting alone in empty stands, staring out at an empty field. The big show goes down on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The teams are still to be determined, but the headliner is locked in.

This caps off a week of speculation. Last week, reports that Jay-Z would take the halftime stage sparked a wave of reaction — some fans celebrated, while others called the move self-serving, given that Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has produced the halftime show in partnership with the NFL for years. Others cautioned that the reports might be premature. Monday night settled all of that.

And the timing could not be better for Hov’s case. He just wrapped two massive, successful shows at that very same SoFi Stadium over the weekend — the kind of performances that prove a rapper like Jay-Z can absolutely carry the biggest stage in American entertainment.

There are still plenty of unknowns. Who are the guests? What’s the setlist? That will stay a mystery until rehearsals — or, more likely, until something inevitably leaks. But one thing is certain: this is a polarizing pick, and no matter what Jay-Z does on that stage, somebody will have something to say about it.

From Marcy to the biggest stage on earth — Hov has built a career out of proving doubters wrong. Now he gets the biggest halftime spotlight of all, in the building where he just reminded everybody what he can do.
