Takeoff Murder Trial Pushed to 2027 — Four Years After the Migos Rapper’s Death

Written by on 4 November 2026

Just days after the fourth anniversary of Takeoff’s death, the wait for justice in his murder case has gotten even longer. The trial of the man accused of killing the Migos rapper has been pushed all the way into 2027, extending a legal process that has already stretched nearly four years.

According to court documents obtained by XXL on Tuesday, November 3, the trial of Patrick Xavier Clark is now scheduled to begin on April 15, 2027. Jury selection had previously been set for November 5, with opening proceedings expected the following week. Instead, the case that was finally supposed to reach a jury this week will now wait another year and a half.

Clark’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, explained the delay to XXL, pointing to scheduling conflicts on both sides and a large amount of evidence recently turned over by the state that Clark’s previous counsel had not seen. While noting there was nothing harmful in that material, Schaffer said the defense still needs time to review it — and added that the team fully expects to prevail when the case is finally heard.

The case goes back to November 1, 2022, when Takeoff was shot and killed outside 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston. The 28-year-old rapper had been attending a private gathering with his uncle and fellow Migos member Quavo when an argument connected to a dice game escalated into gunfire. Investigators have consistently maintained that Takeoff was an innocent bystander who was not involved in the dispute. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clark, a local DJ arrested in December 2022, has pleaded not guilty to murder and remains free on a $1 million bond. Prosecutors allege surveillance footage captured him firing toward a group of people, and investigators say his fingerprints were recovered from a wine bottle found near the shooting. His attorneys have disputed the prosecution’s account and maintained he was not responsible for Takeoff’s death. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

The criminal case is not the only legal matter tied to the tragedy. Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the bowling alley’s operators in June 2023, and that case was settled in December 2025 for an undisclosed sum. Now Takeoff’s parents are in court battling over how that payout is divided, with a judge yet to rule. Quavo and Offset have been identified as potential witnesses in that dispute.

For fans, the delay is a painful reminder of how slowly the wheels of justice can turn. Takeoff’s voice helped define an era of Atlanta rap, and every postponement pushes closure further away for his family, his group, and the culture that still feels his loss. We will keep you posted as the April 2027 date approaches.
