History
The “Quiet Storm” sound was born in 1975, when Smokey Robinson released his landmark album A Quiet Storm, a collection of smooth, romantic, late-night soul. A year later, Washington, DC radio DJ Melvin Lindsey named his late-night show after the record, and the Quiet Storm format — intimate, slow-tempo R&B made for after dark — became a radio institution that launched the careers of Luther Vandross and Anita Baker. Black Wednesday, the night before Thanksgiving, has become one of the biggest going-out nights of the year, as everyone comes home for the holiday. “It’s Too Quiet” brings those two traditions together for a night built for true R&B lovers.
